Registrations of Business in Pakistan
1. Sole Proprietorship
- Description: A single-owner business with full control and liability.
- Registration: No formal registration required, but must obtain a National Tax No formal registration required, but must obtain a National Tax
- Number (NTN) from Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for tax purposes.
- o Liability: Unlimited (owner is personally liable for debts).
2. Private Limited Company (Pvt. Ltd.)
- Description: A separate legal entity owned by shareholders, offering limited liability.
- Registration: Registered with Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) under the Companies Act, 2017.
- o Liability: Limited to the company’s assets; shareholders are not personally liable.
3. Partnership Firm
- Description: A business owned by two or more partners sharing profits and liabilities.
- Registration: Registered with the Registrar of Firms under the Partnership Act, 1932.
- Liability: Generally unlimited unless a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) is formed.
4. Public Limited Company
- Description: A company that can raise funds from the public and may be listed on the stock exchange.
- Registration: Requires SECP approval and compliance with Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) regulations if listed.

5. Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)
- Description: A hybrid business structure combining partnership flexibility with limited liability benefits.
- Registration: Registered with SECP under the LLP Act, 2017.
- Liability: Limited to the partners’ contributions, protecting personal assets.
6. Non-Profit Organization (NPO)
- Description: An entity formed for charitable, educational, or social welfare purposes.
- Registration: Registered with SECP under Section 42 of the Companies Act, 2017.
- Liability: Limited liability; cannot distribute profits among members.
